Set amid idyllic Sussex countryside in a Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Hammerwood Park is a Grade 1-listed, late 18 th -century Greek Revival country house designed by architect and polymath Benjamin Latrobe (1764- 1820) later famed for his work on The White House and Capitol,Washington D.C.  Originally conceived as a hunting lodge for the Sperling family, the estate reached its heyday in the Victorian period under banker Oswald Smith before its gradual demise in the mid-20 th century, following post-war conversion to flats. Purchased from Led Zeppelin in a derelict state by 21 year-old conservationist David Pinnegar in 1982, the house is now a family home,  open to the public for tours and teas twice-weekly from June to September on Wednesday and Saturday at 2.00pm   A collection of historic keyboard instruments and demonstrations of classic tuning are an important feature of family-led tours and the house hosts a programme of concerts, both classical and jazz, from May-September annually. Bed and breakfast is available at certain times of year.
